Session on: Cancer Nanotechnology and Solid Tumor Oncogenesis

Nanotechnology cancer treatments include the detection and eradication of cancer cells before they form tumors, as well as the destruction of cancer tumors with little damage to healthy tissue and organs. Nanotechnology offers enormous opportunities in cancer therapy, diagnostics, and imaging, but bridging the translational gap is a difficult task. The majority of nanomedicine research is focused on cancer. The enhanced permeability and retention effect causes nanoparticles to selectively concentrate in solid tumors due to the presence of leaky vasculature and reduced lymphatic drainage. As a result, nanoparticles are ideal for delivering diagnostic and/or imaging agents, chemotherapeutics, oligonucleotides, and immune regulators in order to improve their therapeutic index. The majority of nanotechnology cancer treatment attempts are still in the research or development stages. Many colleges and businesses around the world, however, are working in this field.

Market Analysis

Market Analysis of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology:

The global nanotechnology market size was estimated to be $1.76 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach 33.63 billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 36.4% from 2023 to 2030. Nanoscience and nanotechnology include the study of nanoparticles and devices, which explore their application. All science fields like chemistry, biomedical, mechanics, and physics. The nanotechnology market includes the production and application of physical, chemical, and biological systems and devices at scales ranging from individual atoms or molecules to approximately 100 nanometers.

Scope and Importance of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology:

Nanotechnology holds a significant impact and serves as revolutionary and beneficial technology in various industrial sectors including communications, medicine, transportation, agriculture, energy, materials and construction, consumer products, and homes. Emerging use cases and applications are expected to be one of the key factors contributing to the growth of the nanotechnology market size. The US National Nanotechnology Initiative has estimated that about 20,000 researchers are working in the field of nanotechnology. For the UK, the Institute for Occupational Medicine has estimated that around 2,000 people are employed in new nanotechnology companies and universities where they could potentially be exposed to nanoparticles.

Factors such as the adoption of nanotechnology in medical diagnostics & imaging and technological advancements in nanotech devices are driving the growth of the global nanotechnology market. However, issues arise in the deployment of Nanoscience devices under extreme conditions, ions, and the high cost of the technology act as a major constraint hindering the growth of the market. Conversely, support from government organizations and increased R&D funding, and the emergence of self-powered nanotechnology devices are anticipated to provide lucrative opportunities for nanotechnology market forecasting.

Market Value of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology:

The Asia Pacific region had the largest market share of 34.5% in 2023. The sector is expected to witness the fastest growth due to the growing semiconductor manufacturing industry coupled with increasing product production. Owing to the increasing demand for nanomaterials from microelectronics and nanoelectronics due to the increased use of advanced equipment, the sector is expected to witness a cagr of 16.2% over the forecast period. Europe is expected to reach USD 4.7 billion by 2027 due to increasing investment in technological advancements for the efficient exploitation of renewable energy coupled with the potential of nanoparticles to increase the efficiency of organic solar cells. The emergence of COVID-19 has dampened the growth of the nanotechnology market in 2020 and is anticipated to show slow growth till the end of 2021.

Why Nanoscience?

Nanoscience is enabling advanced nanotechnology that involves the fabrication or manipulation of individual atoms and molecules to produce materials and devices at the nano-scale (10–9 m), exhibiting unique biological, physical, and chemical properties. Medical and life science-based applications will be the areas of future development of nanoscale materials which has been the main focus of nanotechnology companies over the past decade. Furthermore, future market prospects and opportunities include medical and life-science applications where nanotechnology provides interactions with cells at the molecular level.
