Polymer nanoscience is the study and application of nanoscience to polymer-nanoparticle matrices called Polymer nanocomposites (PNC) consist of a polymer or copolymer having nanoparticles or nanofillers dispersed in the polymer matrix. This varies with different shapes (e.g., platelets, fibers, spheroids), but at least one dimension must be in the range of 1–50 nm. It requires controlled mixing/compounding and stabilization of the dispersion phase.

Nanotechonology application in food includes nanofood when nanoparticles, nanotechnology techniques or tools are used during cultivation, production, processing, or packaging of the food. It does not mean atomically modified food or food produced by nanomachines. Future applications of nanotechnologies could include nanostructured food products, nanoscale or nano-encapsulated food additives, or food packaging with improved properties. There are, however, certain foods including food additives that naturally contain nanoscale particles.
